If you are planning to do your packing yourself, Olympique Moving and Storage Company offers the following tips:

• Keep all items that you may need on short notice close to the door.
• It is vital to drain any gasoline tank of mower, blower, etc. Fuel storage (solvents, gasoline, paint, etc. is strictly prohibited!
• To save on space, we recommended that you disassemble your tables.
• Place mirrors and fragile pieces last.
• Place mattresses upright to prevent folding.
• Keep most frequently used tools for assembly and dissembly requirements.
• Check with your insurance company if it is possible to transfer your current policy.
• Fragile articles must be placed in solid boxes and be packed adequately with suitable materials. These boxes will be identified (fragile) and will be placed on top of the pile.
• It is prohibited to store perishable goods and live animals and jewels.
• Keep the door of the refrigerator half opened in order to prevent moulds and/or bad smells.

1- Cartons (boxes) should be clean and in good condition. You can order cartons from Olympique Moving and Storage to be delivered to you, or collect them from your local grocery or other stores. But they must have a cover so that they can be closed and sealed.
2- Some people save and use old newspapers, but bear in mind that the ink never thoroughly dries and items wrapped in newspaper will most likely be soiled and require cleaning after unpacking.
3- Use packing paper generously and fill the box so that, if shaken, damage will not be caused to the contents.
4- Pack heavy items in small boxes, light items in large boxes. No box should be too heavy to lift.
5- Felt-tipped pens are ideal for marking boxes with information such as the contents, Fragile, This side up, and which room it should be delivered to.
6- Clothes hung on hangers, such as suits, dresses and coats, can best be moved in the mover’s wardrobe cartons.
7- Some things should stay with you as you move. Cash, securities, jewelry and furs, firearms (consult local laws), personal papers and documents (like birth certificates, insurance policies and deeds), prescriptions, coin and stamp collections, special family photographs and videos, moving-related documents. If you decide to do the packing yourself, we want to help all we can.
8- Dresser drawers do not need to be emptied, but make sure that the drawer's contents are not too heavy because too much weight can cause damage. Fill the drawers with clothing or pillows.
9- Do not box televisions or computer monitors unless you have the original boxes. Computers and television sets will be padded with the mover's blankets on moving day.
10- We cannot transport flammable items such as fluids, pressurized cans, paint remover, gasoline, ammunition or explosives. The law forbids movers to carry flammables.
